5/12/2013 Quickie Pickies From FirenzeEach time I take a step today, my sore hamstrings remind me of the AMAZING day yesterday spent biking through the hills of the Chianti region. We started the day with a tour of a Tuscan castle-turned-winery, where we took part in wine tasting and olive oil tasting - both tasted delish to me! I'm working on developing my love for red wines while in Chianti . . . I know, such hard work! Then we rode through 13 miles of gorgeous green rolling hills, little towns with beautiful homes and neighborhood schools, and of course stopped for pasta to fuel up for the "monster hill" ahead of us. It was the perfect way to see Tuscany! We rewarded ourselves for our rigorous bike ride by ending our day at Ciro & Sons, a small restaurant in our neighborhood that had a line out the door. While we waited for our table, I was hypnotized by (or was just super hungry watching) one of Ciro's sons tossing pizza dough in the air and piling on delicious topping after delicious topping, then throwing it in the wood-burning oven for about 2 minutes, and serving it piping hot straight to the tables. We ended up splitting a prosciutto, arugula, cherry tomato pizza with truffle oil drizzled on top. It was unnnnnreal. I decided one day I will have one of these in my backyard . . . yes yes mark my words! It won't say Ciro & Sons, but I will make Italian style pizzas in it, and roasted veggies and fish and chicken that will have that amazing charred taste that you can only get from one of these ovens! Cooking class starts tomorrow. . . lots more updates to come!
Happy Mother's Day to all! I'm missing my momma while in Italy. . . good thing she is coming here in two weeks to explore EATaly with us!
