I'm so excited to welcome you to the new and improved Weeknight Bite! I started dreaming up this redesign almost exactly a year ago, and I'm not sure if I've ever anticipated anything more than this. Ok, maybe my wedding day was a more highly anticipated moment in my life. But, I've gotta say, this ranks pretty high up there!
I first started Weeknight Bite in 2012 when my siblings and friends started asking me to "teach them how to cook". I was certainly not a trained chef, but I knew how to throw together some simple and healthy meals. So I figured why not!? My roommates and I came up with the name Weeknight Bite, I bought the domain that day on GoDaddy, made a random logo on a free logo website, created two recipes, and launched my blog a couple weeks later. I never expected it to become something that I'd love so much. I never would have imagined that 5 years later, I'd be turning my little cooking blog into a place where my very own nutrition practice, wellness tips, and healthy recipes would come together in one beautiful space. And I have to say, I'm pretty darn proud of the amount of detail and planning, the various mood boards and brainstorm sessions, and the countless hours that went into making this a reality.
When I decided it was time to give Weeknight Bite a major makeover, I was a bit overwhelmed about where to start. I knew that I wanted it to have beautiful branding, bright, fresh photos, and an easy-to-navigate website. I was determined to make Weeknight Bite a place that would inspire my clients and readers to live a happy, healthy life, and to know that this lifestyle can (and should) be simple, fun, and easy. But figuring out how to make that all come together . . . well, that was the tricky part.
About a year ago, I signed up for the Branding Simply program taught by Shannan Monson of Nutrition Simply. I could (and actually, I will!) do a whole post about this program, but basically, Shannan created it to inspire women to bring out their inner #girlboss and to teach them how to fully brand and launch their businesses. One of the many things I learned was the importance of great photography. Well, perfect timing, because I had just started working with the mega-talented Kristen Schellenberg, aka @currentlykristen. The majority of the photos that you see on the new and improved site are taken by Kristen, and I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with her, become friends with her, and spend hours discussing both of our businesses while shooting delicious food together. (By the way, for any bloggers or brands who need help with their photography, content, or social media, Kristen and her business, The Atelier LA, are your one-stop-shop!)
The next step was finding a designer to help me with my branding, collateral, and web design. I interviewed several talented web designers, and am so grateful to have connected with Kati Forner, the ultimate creative genius and goddess. She completely got my vision, and with her incredible attention-to-detail, she made it a reality. And thank goodness for Adam, my brilliant web developer who brought it all together and had so much patience for all of my emails and the millions of bullet points and questions I had throughout the process. It takes a village and I am so grateful for the one I had throughout this process!
So please, hang out, look around, and explore the new site and let me know your thoughts! Making this a place that you love to visit served as my motivation over the last year. I can't even describe how much I've appreciated all of your love, comments, and support since starting Weeknight Bite. Hearing that you made a recipe and loved it, or that you felt inspired to be healthier after following Weeknight Bite on Instagram brings me more joy than you can imagine. To those of you who have reached out over the last few weeks with encouraging notes and to let me know that you've been here from the very beginning, when there were only two blog posts and a free logo, thank you! And to my new friends, welcome! I'm so happy to have you all here.
